CITY PARKS GOOD RACING. FAST GOING TELLS IN FAVOR OF THE HORSES RUNNING TO FORM. Lens Wins Again for Owner Dunne Hyper-Ion II. Defeats Dainty Belle Cooney K. and Rural Boy Surprises. Now Orleans, La., December 27. Secretary Ma-ginn framed the conditions for today so that they would bring out quantity rather than quality, and in this lie was not disappointed, as live of the six races had the limit number of entries. Threatening weather, however, caused a number of withdrawals. The card was featureless. Favorites continued to pcore and four were successful during the afternoon. Lens added another to his long list of victories by laking tho third race from a number of good ones, including Gild and Coltness. Gild was making his first start this season on the local tracks, put up a good performance and will probably show Improvement. Lens was considerably favored ly the mishap to Coltness, which, practically broke down at a critical period and when running In a contending position that would have Insured bis fighting it out with tho Dunne representative. Hyperion II. showed a good performance In the fourth race when lie led a good; band of racers for the mile and seventy yards. His face was the best of the day, and lie was probably the best-backed fuvorite of the afternoon. Dainty Belle, which finished second, ran her usual consistent race, but that was not good enough to down the winner. Orly showed that he is regaining his best form by closing a big gap in the last half and finishing with a tremendous rush to take third place. St. Ilario, at a short price, was best of those that started in the fifth race, and after a sharp stretch drive, won from the long shot, Moscow Belle. Lady Vincent, heavily supported by the easterners, headed by Tony Astes following, made good In the closing race amid a deafening din. The surprises of the afternoon were furnished in the opening races, when Rural Boy took the first and Cooney K. the second. The latter was extensively supported. The judges went after the rough riders today and suspended jockey James Hogg for six days for his cutting across in front of tho others soon after the fitnrt in the last race. Several other riders were severely reprimanded. C. R. Ellison denied that negotiations were on foot for the transfer of his Temaceo for .0,000. "Any one desirous of buying the horse can get him for a good deal less than 0,000," said Ellison. Starter Mars Cassidy was severely active this nfternoon and handed out punishment to a number of riders for their bad actions while at the post. Heidel and Finn were each given a weeks suspension for misbehavior at the post in the first race. Pickens and Kerinath will stay on the ground for two days and E. Griffin will stay down for three days. Vagabond and Croxton arrived today from Toronto, Canada, and will be raced through the field. Burlew and ONeills Dashaway was worked three-quarters this morning and pulled up bleeding. Juggler went three-quarters in 1:14. Chapultepec was- also given a stilt work-out and will likely be the stables mainstay in tomorrows stake, Angelus, ltecaiire of his ailment will be- kept in the stable. M. J. Winn and James Butler are due to arrive tomorrow.
