ANGELUS A DISAPPOINTMENT. When John W. Rogers came up from Aiken, S. C, last spring he considered Angelus his best two-year-old. The Sandringham colt had shown high speed for him as a yearling, and he had wintered satisfactorily. Rogers made two or three unsuccessful attempts to win with Angelus at Belmont Park in May and June, and each time the colt started he was backed by the Whitney stable. He was put by in June in the hope that he might come to hand later, but he did not, which was the reason he was sold to Bur-lew. The coming two-year-old from the dam of Angelus and Bumble Bee is a Hamburg, and a highly tried youngster. But last spring, while Mr. Whitney and Mr. Rogers still believed Angelus was going to make a high-class horse, Vespers was bred back to Sandringham.
