Start good. Won driving: second and third the same. John H. outbroke the others and made the early running, was momentarily headed on the far turn, but got up again in the last two strides. Pinaud closed up steadily and loomed up like the winner midway the stretch, but tired finally. Jocund, outpaced early, closed a big gap in the last half and but for swerving at the end would have won. Magrane was a forward and game contender throughout. Seattle broke slowly, but maintained nearest and persistent pursuit of the pacemaker and was wearing the latter down at the end. Ocean Maid, a slow beginner and apparently outpaced for the first quarter, closed » big gap in the stretch and was best. Alice Collins tired after three furlongs of early forward contention. Carrie Thatcher, also in close pursuit to the stretch, tired and probably disliked the going. Overweights — Little Jane, 1 pound. Seattle, singly, place, 7 to 15; show, 2 to 5.
