MONTREALS MEETING COMES TO A CLOSE Iteidmooro Wins tlio Jockey Club Stakes the Chief Race of the Day Montreal Qne June 20 The second spring meet ¬ ing of the Montreal Jockey Club came to a close today and one of the largest crowds that has wit ¬ nessed the sport during the present season turned out A program of seven races had been provided by Secretary IJotlen ant there were olleredijis fea ¬ tures a steeplechase ov r tlie twomllii coTivse and the Jockey Club Stakes at one mile and an eighth The fields were evenly matched and a majority of the races furnished keen finishes finishesWilliam William Shields furnished the winner of the Jockey Club Stakes In Heidmoore which led from end to end and won from Zipango after a long stretch drive McCahey who had the mount on Heidmoore rode two other winners Disobedient and Yaddo YaddoThe The colors of Sir Thomas Shaughliessy president of the Canadian Pacific Railroad were seen on the turf for the first time on Silk Hose in the sixth race Silk Hose is the filly which Sir Thomas pur ¬ chased a few days ago from S C Hildreth She was plainly not up to a race and tired in the stretch under a drive driveFive Five favorites won during the afternoon and the books lost heavily In the steeplechase two of the four starters Finn MacCool and Medicine Man came to grief Both horses lost their riders the former at the tenth and the latter at the eleventh jump Medicine man was a keen contender at the time he unseated Edwards vTYie horse was quickly caught by a stable boy wtiot0ok him over the remainder of the course When he weighed in it was found that he was fourteen pounds short of weight In the meantime Finn MacCool was also caught and finished the course He followed Medicine Man in alxmt two minutes after the latter finished and his rider making the weight was placed third thirdA A majority of the stables which participated in the meeting leave for Windsor on Monday James McLaughlin and T K Mannix return to New York Jockey McCahey returns with the Mannix stable stableThe The stable which Thomas Clyde Has been racing at Blue Bonnets will be shipped from here to To ¬ ronto where the horses will be rested up until the opening of the Fort Erie meeting At the conclu ¬ sion of racing at that point they will return to Montreal for the fall meeting
