JOCKEY BUTLER FOR LOS ANGELES Lexington Ky August 20 Before leaving for New York Thursday morning Joe S Hawkins said he had made up his mind to race at Los Angeles this winter and that he would take out a string oC about twelve He has six older horses in his barn at the Kentucky Association course and two vear lings lie wants about half a dozen more yearlings and will probably buy them at Sheepshead Bay I can get them cheaper out of the sales ring than I can buy them here privately said he Tim breeders are asking about three times as much for them at home than they will bring in New York I won t say that anyone has priced me a horse reu ¬ nions than he is probably worth but it is not good business to buy at the home prices when you can get it for less elsewhere Really I wouldnt bo buying or racing at all were It not for Jimmy But ¬ ler I have the contract on Butler and he is devel ¬ oping into a star jockey We were together through his schooling and I feel that the parting should not SvViferi11 llav Ulia1an opportunity to share the fruits of his ability which I have aided in develop ing After the season on the coast it is my Inten ¬ tion to come home turn out and wait until matters right themselves in the east I do not believe we will have to wait more than three vears for tho complete reestabllshmeut of racing jri New York
