MISS OFFICIOUS WINS A RICH STAKE Seattle Wash August 21 The Puget Sound Han ilioap nt two miles the most valuable longdistance fixture ever decided in the northwest was won by Matt Heis Meddler mare Miss Oflicious today over a track that was fetlock deey In mud The day brought respite from the rain that had been falling intermittently during the week and the novelty of a longdistaiKo stake attracted a tremendous attend ¬ ance Enthusiasm was boundless as Miss OHicious scored in a canter after leading First Peep and Harry Scott the only other starters every inch of the twomile route While First Peep ruled the favorite for the race Miss OHicious was backed by tho mass of racesoers in a spirit of local pride her owner being a resident of Seattle SeattleTin Tin running of the race was marred by a jam on the first turn in which First Peep narrowly escaped falling Jockey Russell who rode the winner was held responsible for crowding Harry Scott against the favorite and was fined 50 The incident in no wise affected the outcome but A G Dunlap owner of First Peep and William Walker owner of Harry Scott had a personal encounter over it late in the day in which Walker was disfigured The matter will receive oQicial attention attentionPickaway Pickaway was the only winning favorite Jockey C Sullivan was suspended for u week for over anxiety at the barrier barrierJockey Jockey Sandy returned today to his home at Oak liind suspensionT He is still under suspension T II Ityan will offer all of bis horses exwpt Downpatrjck nt auction next Saturday Dowiipatrick will reserved for winter racing at Oakland William Caine claimed Dr McCluer from the St James Stable yesterday
