HURR10ANA BTttD ESCAPES DESTRUCTION Amsterdam N Y August 29 Spontaneous com ¬ bustion caused A fire thilt threatened the destruction ol this Ililrricauit Stud owned by General Stephen Sanford and located nbotlt two miles east Of this city last Thursday inoriiiiiS Farm hands titkin care Of Hit1 work horses in their barns lUelOvered the tiro in a barn where nearly WK tons of hay wro stored By hard work ll lire was prevented from spreading to adjoining barns where the broodmares stallions and race horses were quartered but the building in which the vork horses arc kept and the hay stored was totally destroyed The barn housing the broodmares was the first structure threatened then the quarter of the stal ¬ lions but only slight damage was done About 200 yurdu from the burned structure wns the racing stable All the horses were led out of their stalls without 8000HurricniiJi injury The damage was about 8000 HurricniiJi Stud Farm is the largest thoroughbred breeding farm In the east The stables have the a test improvements and are models of their kind More than 200 thoroughbreds of all ages from year ¬ lings to old stallions and broodiriarcs are at Hurri caua including the stnllloils Chilctahnnda Clifford and Hoekton Moluiwk II A Stake winner La TORCH One I Love mill other broodtmires Fultonvillc Fort Johnson Fonda Kennyctto Frances Hay Sir John Johnson Vails Adriuche Polly Watts Danoscara Cliff Hock and Cliff Edge
