PIMLICO RACING AT HAND. MORE GOOD HORSES AND PROMINENT OWN-ERS THERE THAN OF RECENT YEARS. Record Breaking Number of Steeplechasers Gathered at the Ancient Track Books Limited to Forty Pcncillcrs. Baltimore. Md.. October 23. What will probably be the greatest meeting held over the famous old Pinilico course in recent years will begin tomorrow when the fall meeting of the Baltimore Jockey Club will begin. Tlie meeting will cover thirteen days, continuing to and including November 7. There are more horses here than ever before, and, better still, they are much superior to those that have taken part in recent meetings. Several of the big eastern dwners are racing her; .for the first time in years, while some of the prominent western stables arc-also represented. Tlie club lias made great preparations for a successful meeting. Many improvements have been made to the plant, and those who have not been here for a couple of seasons will hardly recognize, the place. The picturesque little clubhouse, the new paddock, which was erected last spring, and tlie stand itself have been brushed up. The steps leading down to the old betting inciosure have been removed and the whole space under the grandstand is now on a level footing. A cement flooring has been laid and there is now space enough to accommodate forty books. Of course the association could have enlarged the betting inciosure. but the management decided on a limit of forty some months ago, and this will le lived up to. This means that there is a lively scramble among the layers to cut in at Pimlico. The club will see that boisterous and obectionable characters are not permitted to do business here, and their elimination will do much good. New stables have been erected since last spring, and at present accommodations can be provided for fully S00 horses. The track itself is in good condition, although a little rain would improve; it wonderfully. Several stables got in from the north this morning, among them those belonging to Roy and Paul J. Raincy and Frank Gardner, a division, of J. W. Colts string, some of Jule Garsons and the Chelsea Stable. Bob Walden and Fred Littlefield got in from the Walden farm, at Middleburg, Carroll County, this morning. The particular star in this consignment was the three-year-old Compute colt. Jubilee. Littlefield has great hopes of Jubilee. Tlie colt is entered in several stakes to be run at the present meeting and his owner makes no secret of the. fact that he expects to win his share of them. Walden has several good lookers hi his string, among -them a couple owned by A. H. and D. H. Morris of New Orleans. The jumping races, which have always been a great feature of the meetings here, will far surpass anything that lias gone before. This morning no less than thirty-one horses schooled through the field. Tills, with those that must be put down as the late arrivals, means the greatest aggregation of steeplechasers that has ever been gathered on a track in this country at one time. Jockey Goldstein, who was dragged into some trouble at Toronto last spring, will be seen in the saddle. The Canadian ollicials have been induced to take a more lenient view of bis case and he is now in good standing. Tlie little fellow has always been a local favorite, and he is being bandied by Captain Fred Presgrave, who is sure to give him valuable aid in selecting mounts. P. S. P.. Randolph of Philadelphia wired that ho would ship his string over tomorrow. There is some very useful material in the stable, including Besom, a very frequent winner on the New York tracks. All of the ollicials arc on hand, F. J. Bryan and E. C. Suiith having arrived from New York this morning. Mr. Smith will be associate judge here, this fall, while Mr. Bryan will fill the position of steward. W. P. Riggs will be presiding judge. A. B. Dade will do the starting, while T. Smith will act as clerk of the course.
