JOCKEYS RIDING ON THE TEXAS CIRCUIT. The meeting of the Dallas State Fair Racing Association, which opened last Saturday, will no doubt be the most successful ever held in tlie Lone Star state. Many improvements are in evidence at the Fair Grounds, where the racing is held, the most conspicuous being the new grandstand, re cently erected, with a seating capacity of 5,000 people. The excellent condition of the track is readily seen in the fast time hung up in the races. An average attendance of 8,000 people daily is ample testimony of the growing popularity and increasing prominence of Texas racing. Thirty bookmakers in line every day are doing a tremendous business. Speculation is keen and brisk, prompted by tlie largo and evenly balanced fields scut to tlie post in each event. A glance at the entries will tell one that the class of horses racing there is far superior to those usually seen on the southern circuit. Tins is largely due to tlie fact that with racing under the ban in New York through adverse legislation and with the Canadian tracks closed for the season, horsemen who heretofore have raced only on the larger tracks were compelled to seek new fields, the consequence of which is that a better class of horses are now seen on the Texas tracks. In the list of jockeys riding there, appear the names of many boys who have- gained a measure of fame in the turf world. C. Ross and J. Hogg, both under contract to Barney Schreiber. are well known bovs. while Butwell, Molesworth. R. Lowe. T. Rice and J. Howard are names familiar to all race-goers.
