OAKLAND AND SANTA ANITA IN HARMONY. Los Angeles. Cal.. November 7. With the opening at Oaklaud today, the California racing season for 190S and 1000 was inaugurated. Less than three weeks later the Santa Anita gates will be thrown open and the two greatest meetings ever held in that state will be the center of attraction for the lovers of the thoroughbred from all iparts of thc country. While the stake offerings at Oakland are of a larger number and of greater monetary value than those offered by the Los Angeles Racing Association, and while better action is probably to be had in the betting ring there, still the superior climatic conditions of Santa Anita will attract quite a large number of visiting horsemen. The big stables that will make Arcadia their permanent quarters will not be greatly Inconvenienced in regard to stake engagements at Oakland, for the trip from one track to the other is a mere detail, and past performances record thc fact that horses lose nothing In condition bv making the short journey. This business of changing scenery for thoroughbreds is a particularly good tiling all around. For one thing. It serves to make the betting a bit moro brisk, for the regular form players are slightly out of line when a horse from another track comes alone to compete with those they have seen in actual performances. Then, again, it serves to promote more congenial relations between tho two tracks and this rear especially should these relations Iks more cordial "than ever before. The thought of what racing has suffered at the hands of Governor Hughes In New York and the Locke bill in Louisiana, should be the factor in harmonizing the interests of the two California tracks.
