STATISTICS OF THE HOUSTON RACING. The Houston Jockey Clubs meeting of twelve days, which came to an end Saturday, November 14, was the most successful one given by that organization when viewedi either from the attendance or racing standpoint. Some 5,000 people .attended the races dally throughout the meeting and speculation was keen and brisk at all times, keeping from twenty to thirty books busy every day. The racing brought about many close and exciting finishes, the duel between First Premium aud Joe Stokes in the Ben Levy Handicap being especially worthy of notice. The work of the officials during the meeting was most praiseworthy. The starting of Arthur McKnight was so uniformly good that the public had little chance to find fault, and he left that city with a reputation well earned of being one of the best starters In the country. Hart Dernhama work as racing secretary has won him many friends among Texas race-goers, his well balanced programs contributing to the many interesting races witnessed during the meeting. The meeting has been singularly free from scandal, due to the strict censorship of Judge Murphy, who has become very popular with the racing people of the south. His punishment of jockey Moriarity. whom lie ruled off the turf tor life for a dishonest ride, while severe. Was just. His work in the saddle easily eclipsed that of the other lwys taking part in the meeting. He had a mount in nearly every race, sixty-nine in all. riding twenty winners, eleven seconds and eight thirds. Butwell accomplished a very rare feat when he rode eight winners in two days, four each day. His presence on the track always .brought forth enthusiastic applause from the Texas race-goers, with whom he became very popular.
