His chief feat today was in landing Jeanne dArc winner in the feature race, the Prather Handicap, at live furlongs. The lilly was conceding big weight to seven out of lier eight opponents and started a hot favorite, broke in the rear, but worked through rapidly into nearest pursuit of the Hying pacemaker. Smiley Corbett. and Avorc the latter down decisively in the stretch, covering the distance in the remarkably fast time for a cuppy track of 59 seconds. Her brilliant achievement was enthusiastically applauded. Smiley Corbett. while crossing in front from the outside, impeded the forward contenders. Booger lied. Bellwether and Native Son. putting the last-muned virtually out of the running. The weather was damp and threatening, but the course was drying out and while good and safe the going favored some of the horses and was detrimental to others. Despite its deceptive condition the racing was extra good. Favorites and outsiders sluired en,nal ly in the afternoons honors. The sport began well for form players with two wins by the favorites. Anna May and Madman. InijKirt. sin outsider, suddouly won hi the third, then, followed Jeanne d Ares splendid victory in the principal race. Two long shots. Kelowna and Palo Alto Uieu came along and scored. The local selling race war inaugurated when K. J. Ramsey claimed Crcssina. received a fresh impetus today when the same horseman bid up Anna May, which has an enviable record for consistency, from 1908.sh00 to ,000 at which figure she was bought in by her owner with the customary advance.
