i NOTES OF THE TURF. J. W. May, the well-known trainer, is on his way to Memphis to spend a few weeks with John W. Schorr. Jockey C. Ross is quickly recovering from the injuries he sustained in a bad fall at Oakland November 16, and it will not ho long before the boy will be riding again. Harry Mack is of the opinion that Love of Gold, which was badly cut down in her last start, although ruined for racing purposes, may be saved for the stud unless blood poisoning develops. Sam Rothert. who trained George J. Longs horses at Santa Aulta Park last season, was one of the late arrivals at Los Angeles. His only interest in racing at present is that of a spectator. Dauuy Maher. who leads the winning jockeys in England this year, added more luster to his name when, making his debut over the hurdles at Kemn-ton Park yesterday, ho won the Staines Handicap on Dafila. Anna May has certainly proved a consistent winner for her owner. T. O. Webber, since the opening of the Oakland season. Six wins and one second out of seven starts is the. very creditable record of thland. Ally, which is trained by H. Booker. Former jockey J. Daly, who was refused a jockeys , license last year by the California Jockey Club, is making a strenuous effort to be restored to good standing. The boy is keeping in condition by galloping horses belonging to his father. M. J. Daly. John Morris, the trainer and breeder of thoroughbred horses residing at Frankfort, Ky.. who was . kicked by a mule recently. Is seriously ill from the i effects of the accident. His knee cap was almost . completely torn off and it is feared that the injury may result in lockjaw. Jockey Clem Jenkins failed to survive an operation . for appendicitis and died at St. Frauds Hos-pjtal iu San Francisco yesterday, Jenkins for sev . eral seasons was recognized as one- of the leading jockeys of the world and was as well known in D Europe as in this country.
