Hildreth taking double the sum garnered by his nearest competitor, O. R, Ellison. The latter was but 45 in advance of F. A. Forsythe. The Oakland season is young yet aud its big prizes do not come on until after tho new year is ushered in, but prosperity and good sport has. attended it from its opening day. On November 11 Royal Tourist established a new American record for one and. one-sixteenth miles when he disposed of the fast Dandelion in the re-: markable time of 1:44$. Then on November 21 he displayed his sprinting abilities by creating a new coast record for three-quarters of a mile in 1:11:.. only a second slower than the American record, Fitz Herberts six and a half furlongs, in 1:18 was another brilliant exhibition of speed.
