NOTES OF THE TURF. John Hynes has a number of the Newcastle Stable horses quartered at his farm at Stamford. Conn., and reports all in fine condition. Sailor Boy. which has the distinction of having beaten Broomstick, has been the star of the racing play. "Blue Grass," which failed to make good. The dead heat between Buffons and Thistle Belle on the opening day of the El Paso meeting was the most exciting neck-to-neck race ever witnessed in the state of Texas. James Villepigue is of the opinion that Los Angeles is the finest place In the world for winter racing and speaks highly of the manner in which the present meeting is being conducted. Jockey A. Walsh is riding very poorly at Oakland and has been outside the money nineteen times out of twenty-six mounts. Gilbert Is another loy who Is not doing well, riding one winner and four seconds out of eleven starts.
