SANTA ANITA RACING DELATED BY FIRE. Glorio Defeats Gowan and Maltbie in the Principal Race of the Day. l.os Angeles. Cal.. April 6.— A big lire at Main and First stn-ets today prevented the race cars from reaching the track on time, and the tirst race was postponed until 2:15. -Jockey Musgrave slightly injured his left foot in tile two-year-old race today by being pinched against the rail when an eighth out on May Bride. He will probably ride tomorrow. John Powers shipped L. Calms horses to Buffalo tonight. In the string are Gerrymander. Guise and Pal. Miss Lillian Russell was a visitor at Santa Anita Park this afternoon. She stayed for only the first four race and was a guest of Mrs. L. Moore of Pittsburg, occupying the latters loge. Miss Rus sell was an interested spectator and won handsomely on ilorios victory in the fourth race. inwieldy fields characterized tiMlays racing, and the picking af winners was a precarious oceupa tioll. Most interest centered in the fourth race, in which three of the best sprinters here faced the barrier, ilorio was always held a slight favorite, but sent consternation into the hearts of his hack ers when he showed little early speed, making the far turn some distance In-hind Gowan and Maltbie. Alter entering the final ipiarter he moved up fast, however, but had to go around. He rallied fast when an eighth out. where he ipiickly overhauled and passed the two leaders, winning by a narrow margin, but holding Gowan and Maltbie easily safe in the final seventy-five yards. Hie struggle for second place between Gowan and Maltbie was spirited, the former proving the gamer and finishing a neck liefore the latter.
