RAIN IMPROVES THE TRACK JACKSONVILLES PECULIAR SANDY GOING MADE BETTER FOR THE HORSES. Earls Court Continues His Winning Way — Momentums Victory Brings Disaster — Halifax Wins in a Canter. Jacksonville. Fla.. April 1.1. — The heavy shower* which set in after the races last night and continued on and off up to the running of the opening race this atternoon. helped rather than hurt the going at Moncrelt Park and for the first time during tin un-eting. the sound of the horses hoofs could lie heard as they passed the stand. Tin track is eom-IKised of white licach sand which packs wheu well watered and the rain was just what it niH-ded. Favorites won three of the races, the successful choices being Karls Court. Water Lake and Momentum. Earls Courts victory was his second in sue cession and it seems that John Mayberry has at last succeeded in solving the secret of how to train this Well-bred son of Kingston. In todays race Karls Court simply smothered his opponents with speed. Momentums victory was not one of joy to his owner. J. I.. Adams, for he was forced to stand a "lioosf to retain his horse and then was further humiliated wheu an order came from tin- judges that in future entries made by W. C. Capps. the trainer of Momentum, be refused. In his previous race Momentum showed a poor performance and was beaten off by some ordinary horses. Today he had speed galore and won under restraint. There were several accidents during the afternoon. but. fortunately, none of a serious nature. In th • opening race Mclino was jumped on and badly cut down on the off foreleg. The mishap will lay this horse on the shelf for some time. In the handicap David Dunlops useful sprinter. Youthful, bled so badly that he had to be pulled up. In the follow ki-- -race Goldspink. a heavily hacked second choice, fell lame during- the running and pulled up limping badly. In the sixth race Airship stumbled on the backstretch and fell heavily. Much opposition was removed in the handicap when part of the tackle on the saddle which Sallv Preston carried broke. The mishap occurred directly-after the start and probably accounted for the mare dropping out of contention. Halifax showed keen speed at all stages of the trip and won in a canter. Lovell rode two winners. Water Lake and Monieu turn. At the conclusion of the present meeting Captain J. R. Walker will turn the colt. Ramble, over to A. W. Foulk. who will cumpaigu him- on the Oklahoma circuit.
