AFTER LICENSE FOR JOCKEY GROSS. New York. May 21.— A. B. Sprockets, through G. W. Deny, the manager of his racing stable, is trying to get from the Jockey Club a license ior Jockey Charles Gross. By a special dispensation Gross was permitted to ride for Mr. Spreekels at Oakland last winter. He did not get an unrestricted license lie-cause he had had souk- trouble at Seattle two years previously. The stewards of the Jockey Club want to know more almut what happened at Seattle before they license Gross to ride hereabouts. Algernon Dainger-lield has accordingly written to Thomas II. Williams. |. resident of the Pacific Jockey Club, for information concerning the lad. Mr. Williams has the destiny of Gross in his hands. If be endorses the application of the lad Gross will get his license from the Jockey Club. Gross can make ninety-eight pounds. He is keeping in condition exercising the Spreekels horses. Mr. Spreekels will come east in July to see his horses run on the New York tracks.
