Toronto, Ont.. June 2.— The King Edward Gobi Cup, one of the important fixtures of the Ontario . Jockey Clubs spring meeting, was offered as one of the attractions of a splendid program at Woodbim* this afternoon. One of the smallest fields that ever started in this stake went to the post, the contestants numbering but four. James McLaughlin furnished I the favorite iu his filly. Arondack. held at short i odds on the strength of having finished second , to King James in the Toronto Cup on Saturday last. Arondack failed to run up to expectations, fourth being the best she could do. The winner turned up In George Holles Hanbridge. which made a runaway affair of the race and won after a mild stretch I drive with Direct. Herbert rode a well-judged race on the winner. He rated Hanbridge along in front throughout and when challenged iu the tinul furloug. had something In reserve. The race was worth ,500 to the winner, besides Ihe valuable piece of plate.
