ENTHUSIASM AT MONTREAL IDEAL CLIMATIC CONDITIONS ATTRACT GREAT CROWD TO BLUE BONNETS C0UR3E. Favorites Take Five of the Six Races as on Opening Day — Captain Fred Presgrave Saddles Three Winners — Many Arrive from Toronto. Montreal. Ouc. June 7. — A delightful afternoon, with practically perfect racing conditions prevailing, attracted a large gathering to beautitul Blue Bonnets this afternoon. The attendance exceeded in point of numbers that of opening day and the spectators exhibited much enthusiasm, most of tlie winners Ix-ing roundly applauded as they Hashed past the judges. The Toronto delegation which arrived yesterday and todav helped to swell tile attendance, fully 1,500 coining -from the Ontario city. There was a big increase in the ranks of the layers, thirty-nine doing business as against eighteen on opening day. Blue Bonnets is maintaining its reputation as a course over which truly run contests are the rule aud not the exception. Five favorites were again successful this afternoon, which makes the record for the lust two days ten winning choices out of the twelve races run. Captain Fred Presgrave was in the limelight during the day. He saddled three winners, two of them carrying the popular colors of Thomas Clyde. Couip ten was the other winner whose preparation he attended to. Jockey Phil Goldstein had the mount on all three. A steeplechase over the two mile and a half course and a race for hunters on the Hat were Offered as attractions. Mr. Colts Economy proved .111 easy winner in the jumping race after making the pace throughout. Million eased her up to a canter at the end. Bobble Kcan. with. Mr. Bert Holland in tin saddle. won tlie hunters race in easy fashion. Mr. Holland handled the old horse perfectly, keeping him under slight restraint until well into the homestretch. where he drew awav into an easy lead. The fourth race furnished tlie best contest of the day. Dnthuusic and Chief Kir fighting it out throughout the lust furlong. The former managed to win by a nose. It was a desperate apish, with jockeys Preston and Goldstein both doing their utmost. Bol It., heavily backed by his rnnucction-. proved a keeu disipiKiiirtnient. He failed to show speed at any stage of the running. Colonel Weston Jarvis. a prominent Kngllsh army. officer, was a guest of the stewards this afternoon. Colonel .Tarvis is in Canada on a visit to ills friend. Earl Grov. He came down from Ottawa yesterday and will spend several days in Mentreal. F. S. Skead of Ottawa and Major Ileathcrlngton. presideut of the Quebec Turf Club, were also visitors. Ke l River was kicked while at the post on Saturday and came out of the race lame. J. II. Madi galls I.llicott is also lame and probably will lie ou the shelf for a Week or tAVo. Captain Presgrave has bad Rossfenton gelded and the horse will be turned out for the summer. Lewis Rawes. an JTai Huh locker, was an arrival from Fnglaml ou Sunday. He has ridden in all of the European countries and also in New Zea-iand. He comes with strong credentials as a crns-couutry rider and will apply to the Canadiau Racing Associations for a license.
