SARATOGA STABLES RAPIDLY FILLING. Celt and Joe Madden Probably Permanently Out of Commission Gossip from the Spa. Saratoga, N. Y.. July 30. There are now about 800 horses at Saratoga. It is expected that by Monday noon every one of the 1,400 stalls here will be occupied. Of the horses that were prominent performers earlier in the Season, Celt and Joe Madden are probably permanently out of commission, while Piute and High Private are temporarily on the ailing list. King James is working regularly, but shows signs of soreness. Uncle is going soundly and is likely to be a starter before the meeting closes. Previous to shipment here he galloped three-quarters in 1:18 at Sheepshead Bay. Hildreths starters in the Saratoga Handicap will probably be Fayette and Montgomery. The latter will alone go if the track be heavy. Fayette was sent a half mile this morning in 48;. He probably will be given his final work tomorrow, as will about all the other horses that are being prepared for the handicap. Hildreth has been doing surprising and apparently ellicient work for Woodford Clay since the hitters high-class filly. Ocean Bound, became lame. He has trimmed her feet and shod her with such good results that she is now considered nn almost eertain starter iu the Spinaway Tuesday and the Special the following Saturday. She galloped three-quarters yesterday In 1:17, and walked away without betraving any sign of soreness. As a consequence Woodford "lay and all his friends are not only hoiieful but elated. Phil Chinn arrived yesterday from Fort Erie. Pat Dunne, Charley Patterson, Andy Ilatt and W. J. Young reached here this evening. All the western turfmen express confidence in the ability of the Fort Erie horses to hold their own during the coming meeting. Olambala is being pointed for the handicap. In which he will have to carry 1.16 pounds. He is working well and John Ferriss does not object to the impost, the highest assigned to any three-year-old excepting the 122 of Fitz Herbert", which" will keep the latter in the stable. There are rumors that early last week Winter-green did a mile and a quarter In 2:0.. His work this week has been or n moderate character. Train-i.l;s.,a.,J!1, t1"koM lrL tager to see him let down. I hll Chinn worked Great Heavens with ninety-live up the handicap route tlds morning in 2:12. the first mile being done in 1:42. Petticoat has visibly improved since she came rS ,?Ue worked a mile yesterday in romping style in l.iti.
