Chief Hayes ran in forward and persistent pursuit from the start and drew out decisively finally. Richard Reed drew out quickly and made the running to midway of the stretch and tired suddenly. Queen Marguerite, from a slow inside start, ran into quick prominence and was crowded on the stretch turn, but outstayed the others for third place in a hard stretch drive. Earls Court, from a flying start, ran in close attend-since on the pacemakers for five furlongs and tired in the closing drive. Black Mary, away slowly, was well up In the early running and made a fast, but belated, finish on the outside. E. M. Fry made up i ground moderately. Matchfield trailed early and moved up rapidly on the far turn and drew out witli a momentary lead midway of the stretch, then gave way to the winners challenge. - Lord Clinton ran In, inside forward contention, but was shut off sharply by the pacemaker and could never get up afterwards under an inadequate ride.
