General Stephen Sanford. the veteran up-state turfman, declares that he feels greatly encouraged to continue his breeding operations bv reason of the success which has attended racing under new conditions on the New York tracks so far this season. lie is quoted as follows: There are among the American people, like the rest or the world, lovers of the horse, and the community in general takes great interest in racing. It Is a recreation that the masses enjoy. The, legislation which has takeu place and the. passing of extreme laws discouraging to racing are to be regretted, but you know that these spasms from time to time political, social and otherwise spread over the country and nothing will stop it.
