HERKIMER AND HIS BREEDING. Saratoga. N. Y.. August 11. It is nothing out of the ordinary for the S.mford two-year-old. Herkimer, to work an eighth in 11. a quarter in 22, and keep right ou. Herkimer is a New Yorker through and through. Hurricana. the seat of General Stephen Sanford in the Mohawk River country, was the birthplace of Chuctanunda. Herkimers sire, and of Auriesvillc. his dam. Auriesvilles dam was foaled at Hurricana, but she was of British pedigree. The dam of Auriesvillc was Princess Monmouth, which, since Auriesvilles time has thrown Kenny etto, a good mare. Princess Monmouth was a daughter of King Monmouth and Cremorna. the latter being by Springfield, out of Trebbia. The Duke of Portland bred Cremorna and her dam Trebbia was a sister to the Derby winner, Cremorne. General Sanford purchased Cremorna through the Weatherbys. who. at the Amsterdam sportsmans request, bred the mare to King Monmouth at the Duke of Portlands stud. Princess Monmouth was imported to this country in utero and was foaled at Hurricana Farm.
