SLUMP IN JOCKEY POWERS RIDING. Champion Jockey of 1008 Riding So Poorly at Saratoga That His Services Are in Little Demand. The slump which has overtaken jockey V. Powers, champion American rider of IPOS, and prospective, champion of 1JOO, continues. Since the opening of the Saratoga meeting, 1owers has piloted only two winners, and on account of the poor form that he. has been showing his services are at present in little demand. Up to yesterday Powers had ridden in twenty-live races during the ten days that tlie Saratoga meeting has been in progress and thirteen of his mounts were unplaced. This showing is In marked contrast to the creditable record which he made in BIOS and also is far below his form of the earlier part of the current year. The margin by which he leads jockey Taplin. Ids closest rival in the struggle for the riding honors of 1000. is not so great that he may with impunity continue his poor showing"and yet retain the leadership. The following is a tabulation of Powers record at the various tracks over which he has ridden since the beginning or 1000: Track. Mfs. 1st. 2d. ,!d. TTnp. Won.
