Sweep, on tlie extreme outside from a slow start, steadily improved his position in a rough journey through the second quarter and early in the stretch, then made a fast linlsh. Barleythorpe outbroke and outpaced the others for live furlongs and tired, but hold on gamely in the closing drive. Candleberry. away badly, closed an immense gap in a superlative efTort. Grasmere ran in nearest pursuit to the stretch and failed to stay, but finished close up. Perry Johnson, rating steadily throughout, was a close up sixth. Hampton Court, well up for half of the journey, was crowded out on the turn and closing again at the end. Don Antonio was gaining in the last quarter. Bouquet ran in forward pursuit from the start and singled out into second place when straightened away for home and made a fast and game, hut unavailing, finish. Beau-coup trailed far in the rear for the first mile, and got up for third place in the last stride of a wlrirlwind stretch sprint. Arondack, badly outpaced from start to finish, ran as if stale. Lady Irma ran into quick forward pursuit and was crowded back on the far turn, but recovered quickly, moved into game contention in tlie stretch and swerved sharply to the inner rail, but came on and won going away. Jolly bellied force the pace on the inside and was crowded out. but came along on the outside into a fast going second in a cracking effort. Ruble, pulling up at the start, closed an immense gap in a remarkable effort. Prince Gal lapin-d Rose Queen to midway of the stretch, but was forced to pull up by I.adv Irma and lost all chance. Rose Queen began slowly, but took the lead and set the pace to midway of the stretch, where she was crowded to. the-rail by Priuce Gal and Lad Irma and nearly thrown, then had no chance. Yama closed a big gap in a fast finish. Watervliet showed superior early speed and is a grand looker.
