V ; V RUNNING OF THE SARANAC HANDICAP Last year the Saranac fell from its "previous high estate to that of an overnight selling race, but the name wv.s reserved. This year it was again made a closed stake, but at a mile instead of its previous distance of one and an eighth miles. In its earlier years it was contested by the best horses in training and it was in this race that Ilermis made Ids record of 1:51, with 122 iKiunds up. and thenceforth was recognized as a great race horse.
