EASTERN OUTLOOK BRIGHT PROBLEM OF TURF GOVERNORS IS TO AR ¬ RANGE SATISFACTORY SCHEDULE Dates Are in Lively Demand and ReEntry of ofBrighton Brighton Beach Association Into the Sport SportAdds Adds to the Difficulties New York January 1 There will be no friction iKlwccn tin Jockey Club and the Brighton Beach Kacing Association From present indications it may lie said that lirghtoii will conduct a race meet ¬ ing duly sanctioned iiext summer aud that horsemen wlio an anxious to participate will receive some tort of a guarantee from President V A Engcmau that there will ba no further trouble over stakes and purses won by them Tiiere vcre several inter ¬ esting developments jvsttnlay that were taken to mean that Brighton vjll nuiy receive a license from the State Kacing Commission and dates from the stewards of the Jockey Ciuli Tile ctinvnt issue of the Kacing Calendar the Jockey Clubs ollicial or ¬ gan contains a list of tie Brighton stakes for 1910 with conditions and vaims also tuu dale of closing Jatiuary 3 Hut preceuiiig the list of stakes was a notice to this effect The following announcement of the Brighton Beach Kacing Association stakes Js accepted as au advertisement the Jockey Ciub assuming no ruayoa sibility whatsoever whatsoeverThis This iotice was it is thought prompted by the fjvct that it was not until recently that the Brighton Beach KaVlug Association paid the money won by horsemen at the slimmer meeting in 1908 In eaca case however the creditors received interest at six IMT cent Mr Engcman when told of the announce ¬ ment in the Kacing Calendar said saidThe The Brighton icach Kacing Association is pre ¬ pared to comply with all of the requirements of the stewards of the Jockey Ciuli CiuliIn In other words Mr Eugeman is prepared to re ¬ lieve the Jockey Club of all responsibility and stands ready to guarantee the horsemen against loss if such a condition is required of him himThe The reentry of Brighton Beach into the metro ¬ politan racing circuit will have its effect on the sea ¬ son of 1910 and it is certain that some of the racing time of the othcc associations will have to bejcut to make room for all Last season racing did not begin at Belmoiit 1ark until May 13 but racing as ¬ sociations were not as eager for racing time in lllOi sis they are for dates in 1910 Last season no spring meetings were held at either Jamaica or Aqueduct and while neither the Queens County Jockey Club nor the Metropolitan Jockey Club has made an ¬ nouncement of its wants for the coming season it is expected that they will apply for dates both in the spring ind the fall Last year Mr Butler did not use his fall dates at Yonkers and that was an other reason for the season being shorter than usual but in 10 it is a sure tiling that there will be racing over the tracks of the Jockey Club from April 15 daysWhile until November 15 with no off days While no schedule of dates has been formulated for the coining season it is generally agreed that Saratoga will suffer as a result of the return of Brighton Beach It will be diilicult to arrange a date schedule with all the associations looking for time that would give Saratoga open and exclusive time in August That is the month that properly belongs to Saratoga and is the time that will un ¬ doubtedly be awarded but to take care of the de ¬ mands of the other associations it may be necessary to curtail the schedule of recent years When yearsWhen the Empire City Hating Association was lirst admitted its meeting conflicted with the racing at Saratoga and it made a material difference with the attendance at the Springs At that time the meeting at Yonkers hail to depend largely on horses from the west and the conditions were such that it would hardly be considered that the meeting could seriously conflict with a meeting at Saratoga It did make a differfncvi and a conflict of dates in 1910 would mean much more moreWith With the lirst announcement of the intention of the Brighton Beach Kacing Association to conduct a meeting in 1910 it was also given out that dates would not be asked for in August and that there was no intention to in any way conflict with the meeting of the Saratoga Association That is all right as far as it goes but it would only moan home switching of schedules that would bring about a conflict with somo other association Midsummer dates arc most desirable and it will take some luggling of the time to give Saratoga clear dates for meetingAnother its entire meeting Another serious problem Is the racing time of the Maryland Jockey Club In recent years this associa ¬ tion has grown into such importance that it af ¬ fects the patronage of the Now York tracks Not so long ago racing at Pimlico had no effect one way or the other on meetings held about New York lint 1iuillco has prospered and with its prosperity it has increased the value of its stakes and purses until it partAn plays an important part An effort is being made to induce the Maryland Jockey Club to begin earlier in 1910 and race later in the fall By doing so it could use the dates that were formerly taken by the Washington Icckev Club at Benuing If the Maryland Jockey Club could be Induced to race before April 15 and after November 15 it would remove some other conflict with New York dates but it is not likely that Mr Itiggs and his associates would be satisfied with such dates Baltimore has cold and uncertain weather In the early spring and late fall and dates as early and as late acceptableAt probably will not Iw acceptable At ibis time it looks as if the eastern season might oKji and close witli conflicting dates with an ¬ other clash In the middle of the season when nine different associations will l i looking for racing time timeIn In the meantime the various associations are going forward with their programs for the comini season and racing promises to come back to much of Us Klory The stakes that are to close at mid ¬ night Monday are all receiving liberal responses It responsesIt is reported that the Westchester Kacing Asso ¬ ciations list of stakes for the spring meeting at Belmont Iark will be ready for publication in a few days and that the closing of entries will be fixed for an early date in 1Vbruary The Metropolitan Handicap at one mile it is understood will have a guaranteed value of SfiCOO The stakes to be run at the spring met tings at Aqueduct md Jamaica will not l e announced until later on but they will be framed with liberal values Horsemen who race in the cast this year arc assured of ample racing op Imrtuuitics from an early ttart to a late closing
