KENTUCKY ASSOCIATION AFFAIES Sportsmanship Bather Than Conservation Likely to Be Policy in Conduct of Meetings Hereafter HereafterLexington Lexington Ky January 1 The annual meeting of the stockholders of the Kentucky Associ ¬ ation which was deferred from December 15 because of tlie absence from home of President Johnson N Camden and others will be held here next Thursday afternoon Tho Mtocklioldcrs are to hear a report of tho illlallclal condition of the association and to elect a board of directors who in turn will elect officers for the ensuing year formulate plans for racing in 110 and make application to the State Racing Commission for dates for thc spring meeting which In all probability will precede the meeting at Louis ¬ ville as heretofore though there is a possibility that It will open the first week in May instead of the pastTlie last week In April as for several years past Tlie financial report will show that the original investment of the association through the purchase of the plant from the estate of the late Captain S S Brown was 70000 that 35000 of this was paid in cash derived froin the sale of stock that notes were given for the remaining 3oOCO of which 14000 lias been paid leaving 21000 in notes ma ¬ turing periodically Tlie report will further show that only onehalf of the stock of the association has been issued the other half remaining In tho treasury It will aleo be shown that some money has been made annually notwithstanding untoward conditions and that thc only losing meeting since the formation of this association was that In the fall of 1908 The associations plant embraces sixtysix and onehalf acres and it will toe shown that from a standpoint of real estate investment the holdings represent at least three times tlie purchase price priceIt It is not expectedi that there will be any material change in the directorate or management of the track It is presumed that Mr Camden will con ¬ tinue as president Younger Alexander as treasurer and there is a rumor to the effect that Garret D Wilson who has been acting as secretary without salary since the death of Secretary W K Letcher In January 100 will be elected to that office officeThe The interests of the association have not been wholly subserved in the past for various reasons chief of which seems to have been that the ma ¬ jority of the directors have been unwilling to take a chance for the improvement of racing when there was a possibility that the stockholders would have to go into their pockets to pay a loss In short the Kentucky Association has been long on con ¬ servatism and shy in sportsmanship There are however promises for more of tho latter in the future and it is to be hoped that they will be ful ¬ filled There is a feeling that in the home of the breeders of the best race liorses In America there should be the best racing in America but the Ken ¬ tucky breeders as a whole are not prone to that liberality in all things which produces the best racing Kentucky breeders with few exceptions have an eye to business that Is to the market side of racing rather more than to sportsmanship and some of them are so strongly for the dollar that they are even poor business men menIn In a sportsmanship as well as financial way T X Camden Catesby Wood ford and E R Bradley are the live wires of the Kentucky Association It was due to their energy and persistence that four stakes were opened last summer two to lw decided in 11O ami two in 1JU1 and they are now agitating for additional stakes for the spring meeting meetingPayments Payments to the Breeders Futurity half a mile for twoyearolds and the Camden Handicap one mile and an eighth for threeyearolds each carrying a consolation purse were due today and Acting Secretary Wilson says the returns thus far have I eeH satisfactory It will lx four or five days before he is able to detenuilne all the horses remaining eligible eligibleAmong Among those upon which payments have been made for the Camden Handicap are R II Andersons Joe Morris E R Bradleys Collnet T N Camdens Boola Boola I II Donnellys Ethel D W II FIzer Cbs Boca Grande Gallahcr Bros King Solomon William Gersts Donau and Sureget C L Harrisons Waldo Thomas Hatfields Howdy Howdy George T Longs Don Antonio T C Milams Mar kie M Pleasant View Farms Sidney George Reifs Fighting Bob James C Rogers John Furlong Bar ¬ ney Schreibers Vreeland George J Stalls Sylves tris Woodfonl Fixers Eye White and My Gal and W J Youngs Fereno and Nannette NannetteJ J B Resjxss has declared out Reimburse Re Diiblic and Fountain Square Lou Johnsons Prim Pollv St James Stables Starover and W J Youngs Mesmerizer and Gallant Pirate are also out About a dozen more are to be heard from
