Marcli :;L— Waldo, the Kentucky Derby favorite, interested the work watchers at Churchill Downs yesterday by showing his best mile of tta season. He went the distance in 1:47s. working in front of Bern Maid for three-quarters. Then tta daughter of Oddfellow pulled up and tta son of Ilanudes went the last quarter alone. He worked the eighth in 12J. the quarter in 3Bft. Hie three eighth* in :tsJ;. the half in .".2J. live eighths in 1MMA. three quarters in 1:17 and seveii-eiiihths in 1:32!. He was model in Lis track d |iortnieut. in marked contrast to his liehavior of about a week Bjga, when he acted sour and went a trifle sore. Trainer J. W. Hay says that all the Derby favorite needs is a strong, vigorous jockey in the saddle, and ta thinks with such a rider Waldo will do everything a good colt should do in his Derby training.
