PIMLICO STABLES FILLING UP. Presgrave and Tompkins Strings Now in Training There — Applicants for Reservations. Baltimore. Mil.. April 2. — Things are livening up at Pimlico track. The past few days have brought Ilie arrival of several prominent turfmen, including apt. W. F. Presgrnve, Gwyu Tompkins and A. ;. Weston. With twenty-nine thoroughbreds Captain Presgrave • ••ported from Thomas Clydes Salisbury Farm, while Mr. Tompkins came from Warrenton. Va.. with nine teen runners and jumpers. Both have strings that should shine during the spring race meeting of taw Maryland Jockey Club, which is to open on the hilltop course April 20. Mr. Weston will act as assistant trainer to Cap tain Presgrave and will race Com p ton in his own colors. There are no old horses in tin- Clyde stable. Two vear-ohls and three year olds make up the consign meiit. though Ontario and Duke of Roanoke, that are now being schooled through the field al Beiining ky William Garth, will join the string a few days I efore opening day. The Monk. Busy. Dalho-.isie. Megantic. Inspired ami Almyr are members of the string, and as all are looking well they will un-doiihtedlv give a good account of themselves. In the two-year-old band are youngsters by Dublin. Bryn Mawr and Ben Strome. Jockey Phil Goldstein came with Captain Presgrave. He an now ride at MB txnnuls. Jockeys lliuchcliffo and Ramsey are also here and will get into condition to accept mounts. Owner Clyde will not arrive until some time next week. The Tompkins stable will lie conspicuous In the chases. His string is colii|iosetl mostly of seasoned jumpers, the most noted lioing Sir Wooster. winner of the Champion last year in the colors of A. Henry Iligginsoii, of Boston: Jimmy Lane, winner of many races on the metropolitan trucks in past seasons: Iincastle. a winner at Montreal and Toronto last fall: St. Nick. Prime Hamilton. Ballaealla and RossfentiMi. which latter horse has taken well to the jumps. Tin-re are a number of green ones in the string. Busy Body. Creole. His Keverence. Motor. Pall Mall. Ocean Pearl and Normance are also in the string. James Owens, the steeplecliase rider, was at the track today, coming with the Tompkins horses. Owens rodeon the New York tracks two seasons ago. hut was forced to retire after having suffered a broken shoulder. He s|ient last season in France. He is now galloping horses in an effort to get into condition, as his arm is once more strong enough to permit him to ride. W. Allen. Tompkins regular rider, came along, while Jimmy Lynch, also under contract with Tompkins, was wilh the Virginia party. Dick Saffel has arrived from his home in Virginia, ami will ride as a free lance in the cross-country evtnts. while Kihlie Kellv. who rode for Thomas Hiti-hcock on the big tracks two years ago, is here aud will also ride as a free lance. N. K. Beal sent word that he would ship direct from .lacks.. n villi- instead of going to .Jamestown. William Walkers string is due to arrive from his farm at Oakville. Canada. He will bring his entire stable. The Liverpool on the steeplechase course has been moved from the eighth post on the front stretch to the half-mile post. The start and finish will be made in front of the grandstand. The steeplechasers were formerly sent away on the hack field.
