VIRGINIANS ARE ENTHUSIASTIC. People of Norfolk Taking to the Sport at Jamestown in Great Shape — Favorites Make Good. Norfolk, Va.. April 2. — Racing under ideal conditions was enjoyed this afternoon at the Jamestown Jockey Clubs track. The attendance exceeded that of the opening day. not a vacant seat in the grandstand being visible. The people of Norfolk have taken to the sjiort with an enthusiasm that carries them to their feet at the slightest occurrence out of the ordinary. A large delegation of New Yorkers arrived today. All are delighted wilh the plant and it is to them these days as ail oasis in the desert. Five winning favorites and a seeoad choice sent the crowd home in a pleasant frame of mind. John W. Schorr captured two races, the third wilh .lis- Rose and the fourth witli Bauives. The former was hacked for a good thing, going to I he post at 11 lo 20 after having opened at . to ." . Master John. David Punlops good two-year old. captured the opening race at the short price of 1 to 4. He was coupled ill the betting with Bendaga and only got home by the narrowest of margins. The Norfolk Hunt .liib will hold a drag oyer the steeplechase course. The management have allowed the boxes for the occasion to be auctioned off. the proceeds therefrom to go to charity, as well as twenty per cent, of Ungate receipts for the day. !
