DEATH OF STAR RUBYS DAM. The celebrated broodmare. Ornament, by Bend Or —■Lily Agnes, the praperty of the I uke of Westminster, has recently died at the Eton Stud in England. Foaled in 1XN7. she was sister to the mighty Ormonde — jsissiblv the finest race horse ever bred — as well as half-sister to Farewell, winner of the One Thousand Guineas, she thus bad in her veins the blood of famous winners, and though on the race course she accomplished nothing of moment she gained world-wide celebrity as a broodmare. Among her produce were Labrador, second in the St. Leer and third iu the Two Thousand Guineas; Collar, a useful race horse, but more successful as ■ sire; Star Ruby, one of the leading stallions iu the United States, and the sensational mare. Sceptre. The last-named was by Persimmon, and was bred ou the same lines which produced the almost equally remarkable thoroughbred. Oruie— he licing by Or-moidc. out of a sister to St. Simon, and she by a son of St. Simon, out of a sister to Ormonde. Scept.V was sold as a yearling to Mr. R. S. Sievier for lo.OiKI guineas, and in his colors won the Two Thousand Guineas. Oaks and St. Legcr. Later, she wa- sold to Sir W.
