! CANDIDATES FOR THE KINGS PLATE | +— — + The Kings Plate, the oldest racing fixture run continuously on this continent, will lie an interesting feature of the opening days card of the Ontario Jockey Clubs spring meeting, scheduled to. begin at Woodbine track. Toronto, next Tuesday. The delay in announcing the conditions for this years renewal of the race first run for the fifty guineas presented by Queen Victoria in 1.H00, has resulted in a comparatively small list of nominations. That, however, does not indicate any lessening of interest in the event, or any reduction in the number of horses to furnish the actual contest, tin the contrary, it may be set down as practically certain that there will he more contestants this year than last. The late closing of entries, following a long period of fine weather, enabled trainers to eliminate such of their charges as would have been entered untried had the Plate closed at its customary date early in March. Consequently, the list of entries is made up of "live material, most of it tried and found to be worth consideration. The usual keen rivalry exists among Canadian owners over the running of the Kings Plate, and the I alley Farm Stable appeals to hold a strong hand in a colt called Parmer, by The Commoner. This fellow-is said to have worked well over the Windsor track before being shipped to Toronto and lie lias been entered in all of the principal stakes. The Seagram candidates. Tollendal. Jane Shore and Carrie Miiner. hr.ve lieen showing good sliced in their trials.
