KEENE AND HILDRETH IN CLOSE CONTEST. Margin by Which Former Stable Leads in Winnings on New York Tracks Is Slight. James H. Kecne and S. C. Hildreth are ligurins in a pretty contest for supremacy on the New York tracks this year, just as they did in I0J9. Last year the Kecne berael won 10.l W on the New-York courses against 04. S72 won by the Hildreth string. Fp to date in 1010, the New York score stands 0,075 for Mr. Kecne and $:1S,115 for Mr. Hildreth. The margin by which Mr. Keene leads is so slight that the winning of a single stake of respectable value will reverse the positious of the two. Messrs. Kecne and Hildreth have not as great a lead over other leading eastern stables in winnings as was the case at a corres|Miuding time last season. This year K. T. Wilson. Jr., aud August Belmont are within striking distance of the two leaders and success in one or two of the more valuable eastern events would make either of them a dangerous competitor for the lead. B. F. Carman and the Newcastle Stable, next in order, are considerably behind the four previously named. Sweep accounts for the major portion of Mr. Reenea 1910 iriantnga, with Ballot. Maskette. Hilarious. Graaaaere, iron Mask, Lahore, Cowl aud others as contributius factors. Kins James. Fitz Herbert. Dalmatian. Firestone, Kestisouche. Dandelion now dead I and Fayette have been the principal factors in the Hildreth win-nbjnm. olambala. Ma nation. Beaucoup and Onager have cut the greatest figure in placing B. T. Wilson. Jr. third in the list, while Footprint. Bubbler and Trap Bock are principally responsible for August Bat* moaia prominence. Because of the lamentable falling off in stake values on the eastern tracks as a consequynce of the hostile legislation in New York state iu 1908, the earnings of the more formidable stables do not begin to compare with the totals of the previous decade. Yet seventy-seven establishments have won .MH and over in stakes and purses sinee the opening of the New York scasou as follows: Owner. 1st. 2d. 3d. Amt. J. It. Kecne IS 12 13 0,075 S. C.
