WEIGHTS OF ENGLISH FALL HANDICAPS. The Oeaare Witch and Cambridgeshire Handicaps are tlie two outstanding features of autumn racing in Kngland. They are by no means the most valuable events of the fall campaign, but historical associations and long-established custom cause them to overshadow all the other races. As Bate-past betting races they have long been associated with plunging advance transactions and lmth have been the mediums of tremendous coups. The Ccsarewilch is first run of the two. being decided at the Newmarket Second October aire tins while the Cambridgeshire is reserved for tlie Newmarket Houghton meeting, the last of the year mi Newmarket heath. Weights for this year were made public the first of this month, with Sir Martin second to Bachelors Double in the Cesarewiteh and topwoight for the Cambridgeshire, a practical suggestion that, no matter what others may think, the handicappcrs consider him not far from the best horse in Kngland. Other American-bred horses weighted are Mr. Ki cues Ksperanto. 102 poaads, and Major Mclaughlins Columbus, 99 pounds, in the Cesarew itch and Mr. Whitneys fast colt. Wliiskbrooin, 110 pounds, in the Cambridgeshire, the representation being quite small. Since the nominations to these famous races are of the crack handicap horses of Kngland, as well as many of those of France, their names, owners, trainers, ages, conditions and weights are here given: Cesarewiteh Stakes — A handicap of 25 sovereigns each, 10 sovereigns forfeit, with BOO sovereigns added; winner after September 1 at noon of a race value 4fi sovereigns, a pounds, or of a handicap value !I0 » sovereigns, or of a weight-for-age race value 1,200 sovereigns, 10 pounds extra these penalties only to apply to races of a mile and a furlong or upwards; second to receive 200 sovereigns ami third KM sovereigns: entrance 5 sovereigns, the only forfeit for horses struck out by Tuesday, September 0.
