IMPROVED CONDITIONS AT M6NCRIEF. Jacksonville, Fla., January 10. With improvement in the track conditions there came corresponding improvement in the racing at Moncrief today. Throe favorites and a well-backed .second choice won, the winning favorites being Pharaoh, Smoker and Des-coinnets. The feature race found Donau, Guy Fisher and Rye Straw heads apart passing the judges. They finished in the. order named, witli Donau just lasting to-stall off Guy Fishers belated rush.. Guy Fisher showed a fine performance. He was badly outrun to the stretci turn, but finished witli a great burst of sjieed. Musgraves finish on Carlton G. was responsible for the latters victory over the Beverwyck Stables good three-year-old Aldrian in the third race. The pair ran in close order throughout the last half, witli Carlton G. on the inside. The latter appeared beaten at the furlong post, but responded and just managed to got home first. J. Karat today purchased Bob Co. AAoolcasta and AVestern Belle and turned them over to James Mclaughlin. Jr., to train. Aul -Mi ley arrived from New York this morning and was a visitor at the track. E. U. Bradley left for Palm Beach tonight. Manager If. G. Brown announces that the next novelty nice will be held on Ladies day. January 17. The race will be contested by two men and two horses. There will be a new handicap arranged, so that the men will have to run about 525 yards. Robert McKeever reports that De Mund gives promise of developing into a crack steeplechaser. Sanctus went wrong lu one of his hocks and will be rested for a eoupie of months. McKeever has a couple of horses here, one of them being Voltaire. He will return to France in the spring. Hugh McCarren has chosen appropriate names for his two-year-olds. The chestnut filly by Hapshurg Florida Rose has been named Perfume, and the colt by Six Shooter Queen of Day has been called Smith and AVesson. Albert Simons has leased the two-year-olds sent south by Harry Payne Whitney. The colt by Hamburg Breakdown has been called Blowout, and the one by Hamburg Ascension lias been named Mois-ant.
