MONCRIEFS BIGGEST CROWD YESTERDAYS ATTENDANCE AT JACKSONVILLE OF RECORD-BREAKING PROPORTIONS. T. C. McDowell Scores a Double with Star Jasamine and Attentive Automobile Wins Novelty Race Provided for Ladies Day. Jacksonville, Fla., January 17. This was ladies day at Moncrief Park and Die largest gathering ttiat over witnessed a horse race in Fiorina turned out to witness the siort. A novelty race between two foot Tiinncrs. two automobiles and two thoroughbreds was offored as an attraction and it proved a splendid cont-st. with the auto successful in a sensational finish by the smallest fraction of a second. Racing conditions were as near perfect as possible, the weather being warm and suminerlike, while the track was fa,ster than on any day of the meeting. Thomas C. -McDowell furnished two of the winners in Star Jasamine and Attentive, the former winning the two-year-old race, while Attentive took the third race by a head after a stirring stretch drive. The Holds in all six races were well matched and every erne of the winners was forced to stand a hard drive. After Stafford Jiad beaten Sylvestris in the fifth race, he was boosted 00 over his entered price of 1911.sh00 and was bought, by S. A. Clopton. F. .1. Pons won his first race of the year when Jack Parker beat a band of good sprinters in the three-quarters mile handicap. Incidentally it was the first winner that George Walker has saddled in this country in several years. Lady Ormicant. another of the Pons horses, finished third in the third race. Star Jasamine showed splendid courage in her race today. She was under the whip throughout the linal sixteenth and, wearing down Efficiency, out-gained her In the final drive. Mr. McDowell has a couple in his stable that are said to he even faster than Star Jasamine. All of the McDowell horses are rounding into form and should hold their own from now on. W. O. Joplin wired that he would ship the stable he is racing at Tampa to Moncrief. Jockey T. Koerner will accompany the stable. in the closing race a jam occurred directly in front of the judges stand and in the mixup The Karl, which had an inside position, stumbled and fell. Jockey Dunn escaped with a few scratches. Musgrave, who had the mount on Shapdale. was the one at fault for the mishap and the judges promptly suspended him for a week for rough riding. Stanley Davis, who had bis foot crushed a few days ago, had a mount in the first race this after-, noon. Dave Woodford, who was taken sick about ten days ago, has recovored and is once more attending to hjs duties as trainer of the Bcverwyck Stable. T T. Koerner will start riding here tomorrow.
