RACING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST. New York, January 17. Willie Shaw, who has lKcn riding for Baron" Oppenheim and Prince Ilohen-lohe in Germany and Austria, was operated on for appendicitis recently in a local hospital. Shaw left tin. institution last Saturday and appears to be getting along nicely. He will remain in the city for a week or two and then leave for his home in Oklahoma, wliere he is an extensive land owner. Shaw will return east about the middle of February and shortly after will leave for Prince llohenlohes training quarters just outside of Vienna. William Hogan. trainer for Bartlett McLennan, the Canadian turfman, is wintering seven crosscountry horses at Belmont Park. The stable is headed by the Champion winner. Agent. The other horses are Brendan. Brush Broom, Lillie Hoy, Tap-pipgton. Gild and Minto. Mr. Hogan is also handling Grant Hugh Brownes Handspring filly. Lady Rosalie. Agent went into winter quarters fairly sound and the prospects are he will race with distinction again this season. Agent will be nominated for the coining seasons fixtures to be run here and at the Blue Bonnets and Woodbine courses In Canada.
