AUGUST BELMONTS RACING STRING. New York, January 17. That the colors of August Belmont, chairman of the Jockey Club, will play an important part in the coming: seasons racing is assured. The total number of horses to he put into active training by Mr. Relmonts trainers in the .pring will be thirty-two. Nine of these are horses three years old and upward, and thou remainder twenty-three are two-year-olIs. 1 Traiiieir :.Tohn Whulen took fifteen from Relinpnt Park to Garnett, S. C. a few days before Christmas, and his collection will be prepared for early spring racing at Norfolk. Haltimore and the New York tracks. The Belmont horses wintering in the north are at Mr. Belmonts private quarters, opposite the big course of the Westchester Racing Association, in charge of-trainer Louis Feustel. In this lot are live horses that have raced with more or Jess distinction, and an even dozen two-APHV-olds. of -which six are colts and the remaindeivmllpq. The entire band is in good healthy condition, anil jogging exercise under, inclosed sheds on a well-cushioned .straw ride, keeps their muscles firm. Mr. Belmont has announced that in view of the lamentable shrinkage of thoroughbred stock in this country as a direct result of repressionary legislation, he will neither ship to foreign lands nor sell any of his thoroughbreds until racing is again on a firm footing in the United States.
