CALIFORNIA HEARING TODAY. T, H. Williams and Other Friends of Racing to Appear Before Legislative Committee. San Francisco, Cal., January IS. Arasee came back and ran another brilliant race at Oakland today in beating Eddie Dale a neck in the Giload Handicap, Roy Junior set tlie pace, but was caught by Eddie Dale in the stretch. .Vrasee moved up on the inside in the worst going and won in a drive. Jockey Garner, who rode Eddie Dale, made a claim of interference, saying that Glass put his hands on him while they were in close quarters. The claim was not allowed. The defeats of Dublin Minstrel and Tender Bloom in the second and third races were expensive to favorite followers. Clara W. carried the colors of Barney Schreiber to victory in the first race at odds of 12 to 1 M. C. Pritehard shipped Spellbound and Seymour Beutler in a freight car to Juarez. Thomas H. Williams and other friends of racing will appear before the Public Morals Committee or the state senate at Sacramento tomorrow to speak against the Walker-Young bill, which is intended to prohibit oral wagering. It is understood that A. B. Spreckels, who is at Sacramento, has a bill which would legalize the pari-mutuel system of betting and that Charles Hoots .and others are favoring the introduction of a measure for a state racing commission. Jockey Shilling has returned from Texas, but no action has been taken in his case. It. J. Mackenzie has returned from Winipeg. where he went on a business trip. Dune Campbell and John Vassar, two of his railroad associates, accompanied him. L. Post has arrived from Pasadena with Beeluse, nirth, Sophomore and Mediant.
