OAKLAND HAS AN EXCITING FINISH. San Francisco, Oil., January 23. Four horses finished noses apart in the mile and throe-sixteenths race at Oakland today. Matador led until within 100 vards of the finish, when J. C. Clem passed him. Fnlletta, the favorite, came with a rush on the outside a.nrt just got up to win. J. C. Clem. Matador and Sonia were lapped on him. Light showers fell and the track was heavy. Favorites and well-backed horses were successful in most of the races. Bonnie Hard and .Tessup Burn fought it out in the fourth and the first named linished a neck in advance. Ren Stone, a live to one chance, proved the winner of the closing dash. Starter Jake Holtman sent the fields away. He lined Sehlen 3 and suspended Kirsclibaum for three days for disobedience at the Kst in the third race. .apt. K. 15. Oassatt will not come to California for a visit this year, as he had planned, for his aged mother is seriously ill in Pennsylvania and he will not leave her bedside. J. Simon llealoy, who has Captain Cassatts string at the track, intends to disose of the entire lot before the winter is over. His best racer, Cintrella. has been lame since the season opened, but trainer Healey expects to have her ready to start in the Waterhouse Cup next mouth at two miles and a quarter.
