JUAREZ RACING SUSPENDED HEAVY DOWNPOUR OF RAIN RENDERS MEXICAN COURSE UNSAFE FOR SPORT. Management Decides to Dispense with Programs Prepared for Today and Tomorrow Harrigan Breaks Mile Record, i El 1aso. Tex., January 23. A heavy downpour of ruin last night and early this morning rendered the Juarez track exceedingly heavy and, the management deeming it unsafe for the horses to race over, it was decided to suspend racing until Thursday, by which time it is expected the course will have dried out. This decision met with the approval of the horsemen generally, although they do not relish keenly the two days layoff at this season. Threatening weather affected the attendance yesterday, but nevertheless a goodly-sized throng was in attendance to witness the running of a brilliant card, the feature of which was the El Paso Handicap at one mile, which had for its principal contestants Harrigan. Injury and Polls. Post time fouud Polls held highest in. the estimation of the public, with Harrigan next in demand, lolls, none too well ridden, was not able to overcome the ground lost by being reserved too far out of contention in tlie early running and just failed to get up. Harrigan. tlie winner, ran a grand race and succeeded in lowering the track record by one-fifth of a second when he ran the mile in 1:37. The other races wore well contested throughout. Not a favorite won, but the winners were all well backed. Thurbet. while running prominently in the fifth race, bled and was pulled up. Enfield, the favorite of the third, was cut off sharply on the backstretch and this cost him the race. At a sale in the paddock this morning of horses in training, the property of G. W J.
