REDUCES A TRACK RECORD GOVERNOR GRAY MAKES NEW MARK IN WINNING AT MONCRIEF PARK. Runs Six and a Half Furlongs in 1:20 and Beats Special Brew by a Head Jacksonville Patrons of Racing Treated to Some Fine Sport. Jacksonville, Fla.. February 7. The program provided by tlie .Moiicricf Park management this afternoon "was the best mid-week card of the season. Well matched fields wore named in all of the six dashes and horses of good class contested the third and fourth races. Tlie third race, which was a. six and a half furlongs dash for three-year-olds, resulted in a .sinew-straining finish between Governor 1 5 ray. Special Brew and Judge Monck, in which the former just managed to get up in the final stride to win by a nose. The winner established a new track record for the distance by running it in 1:20. Mary Davis was forced to stand a long and hard u t relch drive to beat Guy Fisher a length in tlie mile and a sixteenth handicap. The latter showed a good turn of early speed and led into the homestretch", where Mary Davis caught and passed him. In the two-year-old race. Sister Florence made it three straight. This filly has improved right along and it certainly looks as if she will be a useful racer. First Peep, a wel-backed favorite of the closing dash, just did manage to get up to beat Henry Hutchison a nose. Butwell lost his whip before they had goue a dozen yards and was forced to resort to strong hand riding to land the mare a winner. Duriug the running of the third race there was a jam and Premier fell. After tlie finish Oracle either stepped into a hole or crossed his legs, fell and rolled on Musgrave. Fortunately Musgrave and Bell lKtli escaped with nothing more serious thau a shaking up. Jockey S. Davis left for his home in Toronto, Can., this morning, to spend a couple of weeks lie-fore leaving for Brussels. Belgium, where he will ridf during the coming season. W. P. Burcli has secured second call on the apprentice rider. Bell, for the remainder of the meeting.
