JACK LAMAR showed the most early speed and set the pace fast, but tired in the final drive. HELEN JOHNSON ran fairly well. The others were badly outpaced. HITTER SIR. showed great speed In pacemaking and appeared an easy "going winner In the last furlong, but his rider failed to see GRAMERCY stealing up next to the rail, which cost him the race. SILK came from the rear gamely into a fast going third. TRAMOTOR quit badly after showing speed to the stretch. DEERFOOT was always outpaced. SMILEY METZNER, after leing reserved in the early running, moved up while rounding the last turn and. challenging the leader in the last sixteenth, drew into a slight lead and could have won farther off. MELISSA took the lead on tha backstretch and set a fast pace, but could not withstand the winner. MARIGOT showed scant early speed and was cut off at the half, then swung wide when entering the stretch and was gaining at the end. PEDRO was under strong restraint while going down the backstretch, but quit in the final drive. RONTON ran a good half, then retired.
