DISQUALIFIED FOR FOULING INTERFERENCE WITH STARBOARD COSTS ROYAL ONYX PLACE AT MONCRIEF. Oakhurst, Greatly Improved Racer, Takes Handicap Feature of a Mediocre Program Descomncts, Favorite of Race, Victim of Accident. Jacksonville, Fla., March 20. The card offered at Moncricf today was of ordinary caliber, the fields being made up or the cheaper class of horses. Five of the six races were with selling conditions and most of them were with either non-winners at the meeting or horses that had not won two races this winter. They were an evenly balanced lot and Mae-ssie, winner of the second race, was the only favorite that rewarded hackers of that class ot horses. One of the few disqualifications .of the meeting came after the running of the third race, in which Royal Onyx finished second. In the homestretch Royal Onyx repeatedly interfered with Starboard. Goose made no apparent effort to prevent the bumping and the judges promptly disqualified Royal Onyx and placed him last. This gave second place to Louis Rril and third money to Night Mist. Capt. P. M. Walker furnished tne winner in the feature race, a mile selling handicap, in which Oakhurst boat Bnnivcs a head after a stirring stretch drive. This was the only close finish of the day. The favorite in this race. Desconmets. fell while rounding the far turn. lie was trailing Spindle, which crossed his legs and went down. Doseomuets tumbled over him. Fortunately riders and horses escaped injury. Oakhurst has developed into one of the best platers here. Todays victory was the liflh he has .scored hero this winter, besides placing on several other occasions. Maxenfius, winner of the two-year-olds race, was making his first appearance in the colors of J. W. Tangle. He ran a good race, coming from behind and finishing with a good burst of speed to beat Nannie McDee a length.. The exodus of horsemen who have been participating In the racing- here thisi winter has already begun. This morning .1. AV. May left for. Louisville with his string. Hugh Fjfiuny., uhGarsjMiJtUM; K. W. Hoffner shipped to .Tamestown. StWrWHStnor owners will leave here the latter part of this week. Starter Dade lifted the suspension of jockeys Gross, T. Koerner. and Loftus this morning. Many of the best riders have already left and it was with the idea of helping out the horsemen that the boys mentioned wore permitted to ride. W. K. Suggs traded Peep Over for The Hake and the former ran in the name of O. F. Scbunk this afternoon. A. !. Weston, acting for David Stephenson, sold Chop tank to T. R. Condran this morning. T. Kathntnn left for Saratoga last night to take up several horses that have been wintering there. Among them are Centre Shot, Cloisteress and Ma-y.unia. The judges suspended Obert for striking Goose with his whip in the jockey room after the running of the Royal Onyx race. Obert complained that he had been tiuown against the fence several times by Goose. It. .T. Aikens Sebastian was destroyed Saturday. The horse was injured about a week ago. It is understood that the Legislature, which meets in .May. will be asked to sanction a sixty-days fair, to bo given here every winter. It is the intention of the Florida Live Stock and Agricultural State Fair Association, if such a law is passed, to make Moncrier Park one of the beauty spots in this part of Florida. Driveways, lined by rows of stately palms, will be constructed through the park, a number of up-to-date exhibition buildings will be erected and the- track itself will be devoted to a pleasure ground for the citizens of Jacksonville when the fair is not in progress. Special attention will be given to the course, so that it will be kept in splendid condition for speedway purposes, and the use of a now clubhouse, which will be erected, will be given over to owners of fast horses and auto enthusiasts. Tomorrow has been set aside as Ladies Day. A mile raw for a 50 purse, to be run between the iiilH ami fourth races, and a novelty handicap, to he run after the fourth race, with two foot runners and two autonioiiiles as contestants, will be provided as special features. In consequence of the length nature of the program the horses will be called to the post for the first race tomorrow at 2 oclock. Den Faulk has bought the horse Daniel OGrady from Hugh Penny and will campaign him at Norfolk. Fred Gorhardy. who was looking after the interest of the Jamestown meeting here, left Jacksonville Saturday night with applications for 300 stalls. The judges have approved the selection of A. L.
