INVESTIGATION BEARS FRUIT RULINGS DIRECTED AGAINST OWNERS AND JOCKEYS AT NORFOLK TRACK. Jockeys L, McCabo and Byrne, Owners C. C. Smith-son and A. J, Walscr and tho Horse Tom Melton Involved in Action Taken by Officials. Norfolk, Va., April 1!. Frank J. Bryan, tho Jockey Clubs representative here, was active following the Stinger-Besoin race of yesterday and as a lesult of his investigation, several parties have been placed under the ban so far as this" meeting is concerned. Besides suspending jockey L. MeCabe. lie recommended that the further entries of all horses cither under the care or management of Nat Byer he refused during the nieetiug; also that the entry of the horse Tom .Melton be refused, ami that jockey Byrne be refused permission to accept mounts during the remainder of the meeting because of indifferent riding. Byrne is an apprentice who sprang into great favor during the latter part of the Moucrief Park meeting. He is under contract to Captain P. M. Walker, a clean-cut aud admirable sportsman who is racing a small string here. Manager Bob Levy also took a hand In tho house cleaning and owners C. C. Sniithson and A. J. Walscr were asked not to race hero any more. They were also told that their presence on the grounds was not desired. Entries from both stables, will, however, be accepted during the remainder of the meeting. Jockey Guy Burns, who only got up today after a live-days suspension, was again suspended, this time for the remainder of the meeting. Burns offense was rough riding. Burns had the mount on. Thirty Forty in the second race and it was claimed that he was at fault for the accident which resulted in jockey Warrington being unseated from the Belmont youngster, Nickle. Orphanry also suffered from the interference, McCahey being compelled to pull 11. As to the racing itself, it was tame and uninteresting. Two favorites managed to win, the successful choices being Plate Glass and Chepoiitue. Plate Glass simply cantered in front of his Held in the handicap feature race of the afternoon, for which he was a :! to 5 favorite. Chepontue also made a. runaway affair of his race. There was a wild plunge on Orphanry in his race and, after he was knocked out of It at the start, lie was unable to improve his position at any staso Of the running. The Belmont youngster. Overman, with the stable apprentice Madeira iir the saddle, nin a good winning race, nc moved up on the outside with a great burst of speed in rounding the far turn and at the finish he was only cantering. The only close linish of the afternoon came with the running of the third race, iu which Royal Onyx: under a rousing good finish by Guy Burns, managed to get up In the closing strides to beat Mon Ami a neck. A drizzling rain fell all afternoon, but it had but little effect on the track, the going remaining in fairly good condition. The attendance was again large aud speculation was brisk. D. F. Kinney purchased the two-year-old filly Norma Girl of J. Pontius yesterday. Application has been received by the chairmai. of the Hunts Committee from the Country Club of Farmingham.
