KING JAMES REDUCES PIMLICO RECORD. Runs Three-Quarters of a Mile in 1:12 in 3cating Footprint and Eashion Plate. Baltimore. Md.. May 11. Stirring contests were seen at Iimlico this afternoon. Well matched fields went to the post in a majority of the races and the finishes in all but the steeplechase found the winners under hard drives to win by small margins. Even the great King James had to be shaken up to win his race by a scant half length, but at that his performance was a good one. King James was making his first start of the season and there were some who doubled his ability to make the weight concessions asked and beat the shifty sprinters that he was meeting. King James showed that he is as good a horse at sprinting distances as lie is over a considerable route. In his race today he established a new track record for three-quarters when he ran the distance in 1:1-. The pace in this race was terrific, the Belmont colt. Footprint, going the first quarter in 2! and the half in !;. The oflicials of the Maryland Jockey Club are keeping a sharp eye on the ring. Uefore the meeting opened the bookmakers were informed that they would not be permitted to lay a horse for outside interests. The running of Van Den yesterday excited their suspicions and when it was found that Gene Austin, who was associated with Henry Mains in one of the books here, had taken undue liberties with Van Den. he was asked not to cut in this afternoon. Haines was escorted from the k grounds and W. 15. Mitchell, who is programmed as L the trainer of Van Den, bad his badge taken up and rumor had It that the temporary license granted by the .Toekcv Club was annulled. T. S. Childs was I another layer who was not permitted to cut in. " One of the rules of the association is that all the I interests in a book must be recorded with the ring management. This was not done by Mr. Childs, hence the action taken. W. F. Presgrave disposed of I.aythorn this morning to Walter Rouse, who will ship to Louisville for a campaign on the Kentucky tracks. There was a sale in the paddock previous to the i races this afternoon when the following were disposed of: Sir Wyndham to II. Bites, 03; Mariner to C. Leedon, SI 17: Old Erin. M. Smith, SS0; Bessie Trotwood, W. Jennings, Jr., 03. The transfer of jockey A. Schuttlngers contract to the Quincy Stable was consummated this morning. Several horsemen have announced their intention of shipping from here to Salt Lake City to take part in the meeting to be given by the Iagoon Fair and i Bacing Association. J. Pontius, G. Mbyne and A. F. Dayton are among those going. Harry J. Preston, the newly-elected mayor of Baltimore, was among those who witnessed the racing at Pimlico this afternoon. C. C. Campau. who will manage the meetings at the half-mile tracks in Montreal this summer, wired news of his arrival in the Canadian city this morning. Harry White, who is the representative of the tracks here, has arranged for the shipment of alwut sixty horses from Pimlico to Montreal. The follow ing owners will leave by express tomorrow morning: George Frawlev. M. Foley. J. Cochran, C. Mack. I. Carter, J. McLaughlin, Jr.. Ed W. Moore, John Shields and P. K. Biley. Three more carloads are to follow. Jockey G. Garner, who has lieen riding very roughly, was taken up wit.Ii a sharp turn by the stewards, who suspended him for three days on the report of the patrol judge that Garner crossed his company with Boony Doon in the fifth race.
