KILBRONEYS GREAT METROPOLITAN. At the recent Epsom Spring meeting the Great Metropolitan Handicap was won by Kilbroney in one of the most remarkable exhibitions ever witnessed on a race track. The exceptional character of his race was thus portrayed In Sporting Life of the day following: "Quite one of the most extraordinary feats ever performed on a race course "was that accomplished by Kilbroney yesterday, and when for the future mention Is made of Kllwarlin and Neil Gow, his will be joined to theirs a truly remarkable trinity. When the barrier lifted for tho Metropolitan yesterday Kilbroney must have been left jiist about as far as was Lord Rodneys colt in the St. Leger of 1SS7. Instantly up went a yell from the ring of "Ill bet 1,000 to 10 against the Irishman! Here, any price you like, Kilbroney!" But nobody wanted Kilbroney; nobody could bo coaxed into having him at any price. Oh! if one had only been gifted with second sight, what a fortune might have been picked up! A quarter of a mile from home 50 to 1 could have been easily had, for though Kilbroney had made up a deal of the leeway, he was still many lengths behind tho leaders. Just below the distance Kilbroney was pulled to the outside to enable him to get a clear run, and when it came, what a run it was! Inch by inch, amidst the triumphant yells of 1:1s- backers, he drew in on the tiring Bagotstown his quarters his girths his neck his head and theft the Irishmans cranium showed out in front, and the excitement and enthusiasm were intensified. Once Kilbroney got his head in front there was no longer any doubt as to the destination of the spoils, and In the upshot he hurled himself past the winning post a long half length to the good. It was a wonderful performance and only went to show what an extraordinarily good thing Lord St. Davids colt really was. Had he been sheltered in some stables I wot of. the bookmakers would have had cause to remember Kilbroneys Metropolitan for many a bitter day."
