MORE HORSES REACH LOUISVILLE. Summer Colonies at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park Considerably Augmented. Louisville, Ky., July 27. Within a day or two many horses have arrived at Churchill Downs and Douglas Park from Latonia and other tracks. The veteran trainer, Peter Wimmer, lias readied Douglas Park with his stable, which includes the useful three-year-old, Any Port, and the two-year-olds Beatrice, Cynosure and Beautiful. Any Port, the star of the stable, won his last start and established a new track record for Latonia at 1 3-10 miles by running the distance in l:5Si, and trainer Wimmer -will go after some of the important handicaps here the coming fall with this son of Star Shoot and Amy Davenport. Mr. Wiinincrs luck was none too good with his two-year-olds during the spring and summer, as they were sick for a time and otherwise met with interruptions in their training, but in his late -races Cynosure plainly showed lie was fast coming around to winning form and the lilly members of the Wimmer kindergarten band have recently worked so well as to lead to the hope that they will develop into useful racers. The string of Lon Jones also came from Latonia, headed by the good lilly Azyiade, but they were at once taken to the National Stock Farm to rest for a few weeks, after which they will return to Churchill Downs for active training. Mr. Jones had several good offers at Latonia for Azyiade, but none of them quite reached the figure he has set on her value and so the speedy daughter of Cactus II. came back home in her breedwrs string. One of the disappointments of the Jones stable this year was Haldcman, which never ran in his races to his private form. Several of the horses that trainer Pete Coyne left at Latonia, owing to their being sick when he brought thu others of George J. Longs stable to Churchill Downs, have reached here. Mr. Ixngs chestnut lilly, Fidele, died at Latonia a few days ago. Mr. Long has sent to trainer Coyne at the Downs nine yearlings from Bashford Manor Farm for their first lessons. Five arc colts and four are fillies, and all hut two are by the Kentucky Derby winner, Sir Huon, the others being by Sempronius. Trainer Coyne was summoned to Lexington yesterday by the sudden death of a brother at that place. Theo. Abadie is back at the Downs with Falcada and the rest of his string, and yesterday ho again took up his two-year-olds Tom King and Samuel R. Meyer, which had been turned out since last May. Before leaving Latonia Abadio sold his well-known five-year-old bay gelding. Light Blue, to a "bush" owner, and that horse may be seen no move on the big tracks. Light Blue had a bad leg, and after a late race at Latonia, her threw out a ring bone. Some horses arc working Hist at the Downs. Yesterday Good News and Lukewarm went a quarter in 2.!;. The latter is a three-year-old brother to Arcite that has not started. L. Kellys three-year-old La TJ Mexican, winner of the Bashford Manor Stakes in 1010, reached Churchill Downs so badly crippled that there is little chance of the colt racing again this season. The son of Mexican was cut down in his last start at Latonia and it turns out that ho is crippled more than was at first supposed. A veterinarian who examined him says he will ultimately get over his injuries, but it probably will be another season before he can race. W. !. Yanke, whose stable is now quartered at Churchill Downs, reached Louisville yesterday. He will bo here most of the time until the Kentucky fall circuit opens witii racing at Lexington in September. Mr. Yanke has several three-year-olds at Lexington which lie turned out last spring, which he will soon take up and have shipped to Churchill Downs. They include Frog, Flyiug Feet and Big Claim. The improvements in the paddock offices, including the jo?key quarters and the mutuel -pool headquarters at Churchill Downs, are rapidly neariug completion, and when finished will make the local structure the most complete of itp kind on any race track in America. Under the present arrangement, the quarters for the calculators have been greatly enlarged. The secretarys ollicc and the entry clerks office are in the same part of the building as before, but are now made far more comfortable and convenient, and a shower bath and other luxuries have been added to the jockey quarters. An inside stairway permits the riders to ascend to the top of the structure where, when not engaged in the racing, they can witness the contests.
